En-Vision This: Five Tough Years

President & Chief Executive Officer

Initial indications are that the nation’s Vision for Space Exploration has been well served by the confirmation of Mike Griffin as 11th NASA Administrator.  Mike brings the right stuff to the agency, and has already made some impressive moves. Yesterday he addressed our Space at the Crossroads event in Washington, D.C., where he demonstrated a great command of the facts, issues and challenges for a guy with just over a month on the job. He appears incredibly focused on delivering meaningful results without delay.

President Bush's new vision for exploration provides a sound and pragmatic basis for NASA's future.  But let us also understand that there is also a real need to 'get it right' this time.  With the Shuttle on an inexorable path to retirement, a failure to capture public support for the President's vision could likely mean a long, dark, and perhaps permanent gap in our human space flight program.  NASA Administrator Michael Griffin and his deputy for space exploration, Admiral Craig Steidle, are entrusted with nothing less than the rejuvenation of our civilian space program.
