High Frontier Adventures launches learning excitement
The Space Foundation and Air Force Space Command introduce the High Frontier Adventures program, which enables Air Force space professionals to encourage students’ interest in studying science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through exposure to space. To kick off the national program, Gen Lance W. Lord, USAF, commander, Air Force Space Command, taught a space-based lesson to a class of sixth grade students at Discovery Canyon Campus in Colorado Springs on Feb. 10. [Gen Lord has since retired.]
Colorado State Summit drafts State Action Plan
More than 75 government, education, aerospace, and NASA leaders met Feb. 23 at the Colorado State Summit in Denver to address math and science needs in Colorado's schools. The Space Foundation hosted the summit on behalf of NASSMC and NASA. Participants drafted a State Action Plan that identifies improved methods for increasing student proficiencies in STEM skills in pre-K through 12th grade classrooms throughout the state.
2006 Space Technology Hall of Fame inductees announced
The iRobot PackBot Tactical Mobile Robot and Novariant AutoFarm RTK AutoSteer are the 2006 inductees into the prestigious Space Technology Hall of Fame. The innovative individuals and organizations who adapted these technologies will be recognized April 6 at a private induction ceremony and at the Space Technology Hall of Fame dinner, the capstone event at the 22nd National Space Symposium.
Since 1988, the Space Technology Hall of Fame has honored 52 technologies and the innovators who transformed space technology into commercial products that improve life here on Earth. The Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA, established the Space Technology Hall of Fame to increase public awareness of the benefits that result from space exploration programs and to encourage further innovation.
Eagle Eyes becomes a Certified Space Technology
Eagle Eyes has officially been recognized as a Certified Space Technology (tm) for its TriLenium Gold (tm) Lenses from technology originally developed by NASA scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. They sought technology that would protect human vision from the detrimental effects of radiation from the light spectrum, including outer space sunlight. Their research resulted in the development of a lens technology that synthetically replicates the natural protective filters in the eyes of hawks and eagles, both known for their unparalleled visual acuity. By filtering out harmful ultraviolet radiation, reducing the scattering of light, and permitting vision-enhancing wavelengths of light, Eagle Eyes’ TriLenium Gold Lenses lead to high visual clarity.
