The View from Here
Space Superiority

President & Chief Executive Officer

The New York Times recently ran a story about the Department of Defense’s program and means for protecting the nation’s critical space assets. Unfortunately, the piece did not provide a well-researched and diverse view of the space program and the need for space superiority. Air Force Chief of Staff General John Jumper wrote a response to the editor, as did I, which I share with you inside.

Report from Washington

NASA has had a good start in the FY2006 budget process. First the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Science, State, Justice and Commerce recommended $16.5 billion for the agency ($15 million above the President's request, and $275 million above the FY2005 level), and then the full House Appropriations Committee ratified that funding level this week.

Focus on national security space at upcoming
Strategic Space 2005

The Space Foundation, Space News and United States Strategic Command are gearing up to present the Strategic Space 2005 conference, scheduled 4-6 October 2005, in Omaha, Neb. The third Strategic Space will support America's strategic forces and focus on the Command’s space and strategic missions. Senior leadership of U.S. Strategic Command, appropriate component and supported commands, the aerospace contractor community, federal officials and other leaders will address the dialogue started in 2003 and continued in 2004.

In its inaugural year, Strategic Space featured key Command leadership and industry heavies presenting to a sold-out crowd. Due to space limitations, last year’s Strategic Space was relocated to the new Qwest Center Omaha Convention Center and Arena. Continuing at this impressive venue, conference officials promise an even bigger and better event in 2005 with an expanded program, an all-new and larger exhibit center, key speakers and more networking opportunities.

To register or learn more about the Strategic Space 2005 conference, visit www.StratSpace.org or call the Space Foundation at 800-691-4000.
